The Balakovo SF's Chemical Laboratory performes testing of incoming raw materials and other materials: coal, lime, ferroalloys, flux, metal briquettes, etc. They also perform testing of metallurgical products (slag, slag sand, dust, and scale) as well as in-house testing of steel samples, including that for the determination of nitrogen, oxygen, and hydrogen.

The Balakovo SF's laboratory facilities include the Spectral Analysis Laboratory. It performs short term testing for the chemical composition of steel samples, determination of the reference chemical composition of samples, steel from a continuous casting machine, and for determination of the chemical composition of finished product samples. Testing and sample preparation are performed using the advanced equipment (Leco, Herzog, Mettler, Toledo, Thermotechno, etc.).
